It's Definitely Spring What is New and Fun to do in the DC Area?

Updated: Apr 20

Here are some of my favorites to do right now. New restaurants and activities!

New Restaurant Highlights:

From the makers of the critically acclaimed authentic Bistro Aracosia in McLean, Afghania Authentic Afghan Gourmet + Chophouse opened in at 2811 M St NW, Georgetown last month, after five years of planning.  I have not tried the new venture, Afghania,

but look forward to going the next chance I get.  I have tried Aracosia, and it really is amazing.

I particularly like that they have a good range of seafood and vegetarian options. My daughter’s loved it as well, but they always love Afghan food!  If you have been to Afghania already (or go soon), I’d love to hear about it!

This is an amazing outdoor selection of food stalls overlooking infinity fountains and lush greenery at National Landing.  It’s a place where you can grab a bite to eat and a cocktail or beer and stroll around the park picnic style in the evening, or make a quick visit during your time for lunch if you work nearby. Here is a sampling of what’s available. There are about twice as many as this. This place is sure to be very live and active this summer during cooler summer evenings!

Water Bar – Open air terrace, providing locally-sourced seafood, and an eclectic selection of wine and craft beer, and crafted cocktails.

PhoWheels  - has opened at Water Park! They are known for their spicy, steaming Pho, and tangy Banh Mi sandwiches,  Home cooking, Vietnamese style, excellent food!  My very favorite food truck from when I worked in Chevy Chase.

Cracked Eggery – Tastes go from the Deep South to the Far East to New York City. Here you can have breakfast outdoors, walk to lunch, or meet friends for dinner.

DC Dosa - Indian cuisine offers a vast selection for vegetarians, and Chef Priya Ammu  has a home-style menu that is adventurous, flexible, and, delicious.

Dolci Gelati – Made fresh every day, with new ingredients masterfully selected by Chef Gianluigi Dellacio, the first Gelato Ambassador to the United States — his actual title! Blending organic fruits and milk, chocolate from his own farm in Ecuador, turning this Italian sweet remarkably international!

Fun Activities:

Now until June 2nd - This looks absolutely fantastic!  I am considering going, only hold up is that the girls and I went to the Van Gogh experience a couple of years ago and I don’t want them to replace that memory with this one!  They still talk about it now.  If you are a Monet fan I wholeheartedly recommend checking this out!

Fords Theater

Now until May 18, 2024 - This new run of Little Shop of Horrors began and has been highly critically acclaimed. Ford's theater does a great job describing it: Little Shop of Horrors is a non-stop blast, sci-fi horror comedy, love story and doo-wop and rock musical that has become one of the most treasured pieces of American musical theatre.

I loved the movie when it came out in the 80s, my friends watched and rewatched it MANY times. We almost saw it when the girls and I were in NYC last time a couple years ago, but we opted for Phantom, and they thoroughly enjoyed. I have not bought our tickets for this DC version at Ford's Theater, but they are still available and I don't plan to miss it this time!

ARTECHOUSE

Now through June 1st  - Enter a mesmerizing universe fusing art, technology, and tradition, as we bring the enchanting beauty of cherry blossoms to life through alternative universes filled with adventure and wonder. I think this one is still worth checking out, even if you’ve already had your fill of cherry blossom season!

I hope you enjoyed!

And I hope you enjoy some of these activities! Remember to sign up for our newsletter to catch more fresh highlights next time!
