The CDC Eviction Ban Has Now Been Lifted

The recent widespread eviction moratorium has now been ended by the US Supreme Court last Thursday night, ensuring the public and America's small housing providers a weight lifted off of their shoulders. This moratorium affecting small landlords, many having the same financial woes as their tenants for over a year now due to the coronavirus pandemic has been lifted after a 6-3 ruling - with a majority of justices feeling it was quite unlawful and very unjustifiable in the end.

In their order, the justices wrote, “The moratorium has put the applicants, along with millions of landlords across the country, at risk of irreparable harm by depriving them of rent payments with no guarantee of eventual recovery. Despite the CDC’s determination that landlords should bear a significant financial cost of the pandemic, many landlords have modest means.”

This fight was mostly spearheaded by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) alongside the Georgia and Alabama Associations of Realtors who extended a helping hand in making sure this unlawful policy gets reconsidered and eradicated. “With this rental assistance, now is the time to return the housing sector to its former, healthy function. NAR is thankful for the Biden administration’s new guidance to speed up rental assistance distribution, which includes many NAR recommendations. We will continue to work with all parties to make that assistance readily accessible to tenants and housing providers.”

Still, there is fear on a local scale as some states and local governments may not follow through with the lifting of this moratoria. But if anything, we're sure that NAR would fight for the plea of the masses. For more information on this recent development, check out NAR and their rental assistance resources.
